Loran LaSells Stewart, known as "Stub," was born on January 10, 1911 in Lane County, Oregon. He attended Oregon State College from 1928 to 1932, majoring in Logging Engineering, then worked for the U.S. Forest Service during the 30's and served in the Army during World War II.
